Fresno, CA – A tragic incident unfolded early Tuesday morning, April 30, 2024, as a woman lost her life after being struck by a car in southeast Fresno, according to ABC30 with additional reporting by the Fresno Bee. The collision occurred in front of the Mosqueda Community Center on Butler near Sierra Vista, before 12:30 AM.

According to witnesses, the woman, described as being in her 60s, was walking in and out of the road when she was hit by a vehicle traveling west on Butler. The impact was fatal, and despite efforts at the scene, she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle, who remained at the crash scene, is under investigation for potential impairment by either drugs or alcohol. Authorities are actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision, including the driver’s state at the time of the incident.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Motorists are required to exercise an additional “duty of care” towards pedestrians due to their heightened vulnerability in car accidents, which more often result in pedestrian fatalities. Motorists are expected to stay with injured pedestrians to help secure help from emergency services and cooperate with authorities once they arrive.

Those who lose their loved one to a vehicular fatality should know that a Wrongful Death Claim, made with the help of a knowledgeable personal injury attorney, can provide compensation to address the financial burden of medical bills, burial fees, and the loss of income to support any dependents of the deceased

Should the at-fault driver escape justice, compensation may be available from a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine what the best options are.
