Kingsburg, CA – A correctional officer lost his life in a fatal crash with a train while driving his SUV on Thurs, April 18, 2024, according to the Fresno Bee. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Reymundo Caldera, a 43-year-old resident of Selma.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Golden State Boulevard and Stroud Avenue around 9 PM, when Caldera’s SUV was struck by a train. Despite the swift response of emergency services, Caldera was pronounced dead at the scene.
Caldera served as a correctional officer at the Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison in Corcoran. His journey in the department began in February 2022 as a cadet at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center. After graduating from the Basic Correctional Officer Academy, he joined the Corcoran facility in May 2022.
In a heartfelt statement, officials expressed their deep sorrow at Caldera’s passing, highlighting his contributions and the impact he had on those around him. His colleagues remember him fondly, emphasizing the significant loss felt by the institution and the community.
As the community mourns the loss of Reymundo Caldera, an ongoing investigation is focusing on whether the crossing arms were operational at the time of the collision. This inquiry aims to shed light on factors that may have contributed to this tragic event.
Wrongful Death Claims
While no amount of money can bring back those who lose their lives in a vehicular fatality, the emotional burden of their loss is often accompanied by a financial burden that falls on their surviving family members.
A wrongful death claim filed with the insurance provider of parties who bear even partial liability can provide compensation to help cover medical expenses, burial costs, and even the loss of support for dependents of the deceased.
However, because insurance companies carry the incentive to reduce the payout for any claim they cannot deny, the services of a skilled personal injury attorney can prove crucial in securing justice for the deceased.
