Camarillo, CA – Chaos unfolded in the early hours Sunday, April 14, 2024, as an 11-car crash was triggered by a wrong-way driver, according to KEYT.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that a 24-year-old from Santa Barbara was driving a 2008 Honda Civic in the southbound lanes of Highway 101, incorrectly navigating in the northbound direction. This led to a head-on collision with another Honda Civic driven by a 44-year-old from Port Hueneme.
Upon arrival at the scene, the Ventura County Fire Department assessed medical needs for the occupants of the other nine vehicles involved, which sustained moderate to major damage due to the crash. Both drivers suffered major injuries and were rushed to Los Robles Regional Medical Center for urgent medical attention.
CHP indicated that ongoing investigations are focused on determining the circumstances leading to the wrong-way driving and the extent of the 24-year-old’s journey on the highway before the collision occurred. Authorities highlighted alcohol as a likely factor in the crash, leading to the arrest of the 24-year-old driver on a DUI charge.
