San Jose, CA – A major crash at the intersection of Monterey and Metcalf roads in South San Jose injured a woman and her young passenger on the afternoon of Monday, April 8, 2024. The incident, involving a solo vehicle, was initially reported around 1:20 PM near Highway 101, as detailed by the Mercury News.
Emergency services responded swiftly, transporting both the female driver and a passenger under 18 to a hospital for treatment. While the woman was discharged with non-life-threatening injuries, her passenger remained in critical condition as of Tuesday morning, according to police updates.
As part of the investigation into the crash, Southbound Monterey Road at Metcalf Road was temporarily blocked off, prompting authorities to advise commuters to seek alternative routes. However, by Tuesday morning, all roadways had reopened.
The San Jose Police Department continues its inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Solo-Vehicle Collisions and Personal Injury Claims
In the aftermath of a vehicular accident, especially one in which a child was harmed, emotions can run high, leaving those involved unsure as to what their options are. In addition to the feelings of distress, such an accident can mean sudden unexpected costs, like medical bills, loss of income due to time taken off of work to recover, and in unfortunate circumstances, burial fees.
This is why a knowledgeable personal injury attorney can be so helpful, relieving victims and their families of some of the practical issues of an accident’s aftermath, and investigating their case to see if another party might owe them compensation.
In solo-vehicle accidents, there may sometimes be evidence pointing toward another party bearing at least some portion of the legal liability for the crash. This can take the form of another driver’s reckless behavior in the area or dangerous roadway conditions, for which the local government holds responsibility.
Once liability is determined, a personal injury attorney can negotiate with insurance providers on behalf of victims in order to secure proper compensation.
