Bakersfield, CA – On the morning of Saturday, March 30, 2024, a head-on collision on Highway 178 claimed the life of a 42-year-old man and left three others with major injuries, as reported by KBAK.
According to authorities, the collision occurred west of Doyle Ranch, between Weldon and Onyx, between a Subaru traveling eastbound on Highway 178, with the driver and a passenger onboard, and a Toyota traveling in the opposite direction with its driver and passenger.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the Subaru and Toyota collided head-on around 10:31 AM. Tragically, the driver of the Subaru succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota, along with the passengers from both vehicles, sustained major injuries and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The identity of the deceased individual will be disclosed at a later time by the Kern County Coroner’s Office, pending family notifications.
Authorities are looking into the possibility of driver intoxication contributing to the crash.
