Pedestrian Hit-and-Run

It is every parent’s nightmare, having placed enough trust in their child to take care of themselves on their own, and finding out they have been grievously injured by circumstances outside their control. While no amount of money can compensate for the terror and anguish caused by such an accident, a personal injury claim placed with the insurance provider of the at-fault driver can at least go toward addressing the medical costs of such an injury.

Anyone involved in such a collision should be aware that drivers are required to show a special Duty of Care toward pedestrians and bicyclists alike. Both often share the road with powerful vehicles while less protected than drivers, meaning that a collision is more likely to have severe, if not fatal, consequences.

In addition to being extra vigilant toward pedestrians to avoid a crash, a driver who does strike a pedestrian is expected to stay at the scene, assist the injured in seeking medical assistance, and cooperate with authorities when emergency responders arrive at the scene.

When the driver involved in a pedestrian collision escapes justice, victims or their families may still be able to seek compensation if they carry uninsured driver coverage.

The help of a knowledgeable personal injury attorney can prove invaluable in helping victims and their families navigate these issues, as well as negotiating with an insurance company to ensure they provide proper compensation.
