Parlier, Buttonwillow Ave Crash Kills Maria Ayers, 40, Serjio Medina Leon, 58, Near Reedley

Fresno County, CA – According to KFSN, on the afternoon of Monday, March 25, 2024, 40-year-old Maria Ayers failed to stop at a stop sign, and she and her 58-year-old passenger Serjio Medina Leon died as a result.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred just outside of Reedley at the intersection of Parlier and Buttonwillow Avenue.

Around 3:30 PM, Ayers drove a Ford Focus into the intersection, entering the path of a Ford F-150 pickup truck that did not have a stop sign facing it, and the two collided.

While Leon was pronounced dead at the scene, Ayers succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital. The pickup truck driver was unharmed.

Passenger Liability

The liability insurance that drivers carry is not just meant to cover accidental harm caused to those outside of the vehicle. A driver is responsible for the safety of those in their vehicle as well. While making a wrongful death or personal injury claim against someone who knew the victim personally may prove emotionally challenging, the financial burdens following a vehicular accident can be hefty.

A good personal injury attorney can help grieving families seek proper compensation for their loss by navigating these tricky issues, as well as negotiating on the victim’s behalf with insurance companies, who routinely work to minimize the payout of any claim they cannot deny.
