Orcutt, CA – According to the San Luis Obispo Tribune, on the morning of Thursday, March 22, 2024, a 16-year-old Righetti High School was injured in a collision with 31-year-old Orcutt man Abdu Rai Delgado Herrera while she was walking to school.
The crash occurred around 7:40 AM at the intersuction of Union Valley Parkeway and Hummel Drive. Herrera and two independent witnesses reported to the California Highway Patrol that extreme glare from the morning sun reduced visibility, contributing to him striking the student with his 1996 Honda Accord while she attempted to cross the street in front of him.
Following the collision, Herrera stopped and stayed with the victim. Emergency responders provided her transportation to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment. She was later transfered to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera.
