Fresno County, CA – According to KSEE, authorities have named 21-year-old Caruthers resident Mario Calderas as the man who died after his SUV ran a stop sign and collided with a diesel truck on Friday, March 15, 2024.
The crash occurred around 7:40 AM at the intersection of Lincoln and Marks Avenues. Calderas was approaching the intersection from Marks Avenue at the same time a diesel truck driven by a 38-year-old man approached from Lincoln.
While Calderas ignored the stop sign facing Marks, there was no stop sign for the diesel truck on Lincoln. Calderas crashed his SUV into the side of the diesel truck and ejected from the driver’s seat.
The diesel truck caught fire as a result, but its driver was able to escape without significant injury. Calderas was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet determined whether alcohol or drug use played a part in the crash.
Fault in Fatal Collisions
Establishing fault in a vehicular collision can depend upon multiple factors, and the state of California allows for partial liability depending on which of these come into play. Police officers and news agencies may suggest who they believe to be at fault in a collision, but these are only matters of opinion until determined by a court of law. Those who have lost a loved one in a vehicular fatality should consider seeking the help of a personal injury attorney who can assist them in sorting out the details of their particular case and negotiate with insurance companies on their behalf.
