Monterey County, CA – According to KSBY, a fatal collision on Sunday, February 4, 2024, on River Road south of Las Palmas Road killed a 79-year-old Pacific Grove man and hospitalized his 73-year-old female passenger, also from Pacific Grove.
Initial investigations reveal that, around 2:40 PM, a 68-year-old woman was driving southbound on River in an Audi Q8 at a speed of about 40 MPH while the Pacific Grove man was driving northbound in a 2013 Ford F-350.
For unknown reasons, the Audi crossed over the double-yellow lines, directly into the path of the Ford F-350. Although the Pacific Grove man attempted to swerve out of the way, the two vehicles collided, sending his truck into a dirt embankment.
Emergency responders pronounced the Pacific Grove man dead at the scene and transported his passenger to Natividad Medical Center for treatment. The Salinas woman did not receive any injuries in the crash.
Investigators do not believe intoxication to have played a role in the collision.
Wrongful Death Claims
Even in cases where criminal charges are not brought to bear, families who have lost a loved one in a fatal collision may be able to file a wrongful death claim with the insurance provider of the at-fault driver.
The compensation provided by a wrongful death claim can relieve the financial burdens created by medical expenses, burial costs, and the loss of income to support any dependents of the deceased.
Insurance companies will work to reduce any claim they cannot deny, which is where the help of a knowledgeable personal injury attorney can prove invaluable by negotiating on behalf of victims and their families to ensure they receive proper compensation.
