Firefighters Struck by Driver While Assisting with Another Collision on Hwy 178

Bakersfield, CA – KGET reports that emergency services needed assistance of their own when their firetruck was struck by a vehicle while they responded to a rollover crash on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

The incident occurred just after 12:30 PM in the eastbound lanes of Highway 178 near the Oswell Street onramp. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene following reports of a vehicle that had rolled over and come to rest in a bushy embankment.

Firefighters were engaged in extricating a person from the overturned vehicle as part of their rescue operations when a second vehicle collided with a Bakersfield Fire Department engine parked along the side of the roadway.

Fortunately, no firefighters sustained injuries in the secondary collision. The driver of the second vehicle, however, suffered minor injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol. The injured individual was promptly attended to and, following assessment, transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Determining liability after a traffic accident can depend upon multiple factors. Helping accident victims sort through these legal complexities is one of the services provided by a personal injury attorney.

Then, if it is discovered that another driver holds responsibility for an accident, a capable personal injury attorney also possesses the skill to negotiate with the at-fault driver’s insurance provider to ensure proper compensation for victims and their families.
