Modesto, CA – CBS13 reports that a head-on collision on the night of Friday, January 19, 2024, on Highway 132 resulted in the death of a 46-year-old Modesto woman.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the woman was driving a 2011 BMW sedan on westbound Highway 132, west of River Road, at approximately 10 PM, when a 58-year-old man from Santa Rosa was operating a big rig with a tank trailer traveling eastbound.
The collision occurred when the BMW entered the eastbound lane, leading to a head-on crash with the big rig. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The driver of the big rig did not sustain any injuries.
The CHP is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and has not given word as to whether they suspect driver impairment to have been a factor.
Establishing fault in a collision can depend on multiple factors. Helping to determine legal liability is one of the ways that a personal injury attorney can help grieving families recovering from the loss of a loved one in a traffic accident.
If it can be determined that another driver holds responsibility for their loved one’s death, they may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim with the insurance provider of the at-fault driver, which can provide compensation to help cover hospital fees, burial costs, and the loss of support for dependents of the deceased.
