FRESNO, CA – KSEE reports that a driver was hospitalized following a collision on Sunday, January 22, 2024, that resulted in the vehicle ending up on the property of St. Anthony of Padua Church.
Around 9:40 PM, law enforcement responded to the scene at Bullard and Maroa Avenues after receiving reports of the collision.
Investigators determined that the driver was traveling eastbound on Bullard Avenue near Maroa Avenue when, for reasons yet unknown, the vehicle veered into the sign of St. Anthony of Padua Church on the south side of Bullard Avenue.
Although the car caught fire, swift action by fire crews ensured the flames were quickly extinguished. First responders found the driver outside of the vehicle, and he was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to the lower extremities.
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, has been detained as detectives initiate an inquiry into the circumstances leading up to the collision. Additional information will be provided as the investigation develops.
A single-vehicle crash can sometimes be the fault of another driver whose reckless actions forced the injured party to lose control of their vehicle. In that case, the costs of hospital fees and loss of income due to time taken to recover from injuries should fall upon the party responsible. A knowledgeable personal injury attorney can help negotiate with the insurance provider of the at-fault driver to ensure that victims receive fair compensation.
