SACRAMENTO, CA — ABC10 reports that an altercation that escalated into a fiery crash resulted in injuries to a pedestrian and the suspect in downtown Sacramento early Saturday, January 20, 2024.
At approximately 1 AM on Saturday, Sacramento Police officers were called to respond to the vicinity of 10th and K Streets following reports of a physical altercation.
According to authorities, one of the individuals involved in the altercation left the scene in a vehicle and, in the process, struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian sustained minor injuries in the incident.
Shortly afterward, the suspect reportedly crashed their vehicle into a bollard near 13th Street, leading to the car becoming engulfed in flames.
Police officers promptly extracted the suspect from the burning vehicle and placed them under custody for charges related to both the altercation and the subsequent crashes.
Emergency medical personnel transported the suspect to a hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition, as stated by the police. The incident is under investigation, and further details will be provided as the inquiry progresses.
When the actions of reckless drivers lead to injuries for others, the cost of caring for those injuries should not fall upon their victims. Filing a claim with the insurance provider of the at-fault driver can offer compensation to help cover medical bills and time taken off of work to recover from injuries.
However, insurance companies always have it in their interests to deny or minimize all claims they receive, which is why the help of a knowledgeable personal injury attorney can make all the difference.
