MOJAVE, Calif. — KBAK reports that a 34-year-old Las Vegas man, Christian Davi Deshotel, has been named by the Kern County Coroner’s Office as the deceased in a single-car rollover crash on January 14, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 8:04 AM on eastbound Highway 58, east of Claymine Road when Deshotel, driving a Nissan, veered into the center median for reasons yet unknown.
His vehicle subsequently lost control, swerved across both lanes of eastbound traffic, crashed through a fence, and rolled over. Deshotel lost his life at the scene.
The circumstances leading to the vehicle’s deviation and the subsequent crash remain under investigation by authorities. It is yet to be determined if alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.
Single-Car Accident Liability
Investigations can uncover reckless behaviors from another driver, such as cutting off the victim’s vehicle, that would determine someone else to be at fault, based on common law principles. In this case, the victim’s family would be able to file a wrongful death claim with the insurance provider of the at-fault driver, even if no criminal charges are filed.
A wrongful death claim can offer compensation to help relieve the financial burden of hospital bills, burial costs, and even loss of income to support dependents of the deceased. Insurance companies will work to minimize the payout for a wrongful death claim, which is why the service of a knowledgeable personal injury attorney can make all the difference.
