San Francisco, CA – In the early hours of Sunday, January 14, 2024, a devastating collision on the Bay Bridge in San Francisco resulted in the loss of a woman’s life and led to the arrest of two individuals for driving under the influence, according to CBS News.
The incident unfolded around 3:16 AM on eastbound Interstate 80, just west of Treasure Island. A blue Honda sedan collided with the back of a Mercedes SUV that, for unknown reasons, had come to a halt in the number 2 lane.
The 25-year-old woman behind the wheel of the blue Honda stepped out of her vehicle and found herself standing in the number two lane. Tragically, another Honda, gray in color, crashed into the rear of her blue Honda, causing it to collide with the stationary Mercedes. The impact of the collision also struck the woman who had exited her vehicle.
Emergency services swiftly transported the injured woman to the hospital, where she, unfortunately, succumbed to her injuries and lost her life.
The driver of the gray Honda was taken to the hospital for possible injuries and subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. In a surprising turn of events, the driver of the Mercedes, who emerged uninjured from the collision, was also arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Families who lose a loved one as the result of another person’s reckless driving may be able to file a wrongful death claim with the at-fault driver’s insurance company, which can help relieve the burden of hospital bills, burial costs, property damage, and loss of income that would have supported the family of the deceased.
However, insurance companies have an incentive to minimize these claims. That is where the services of a knowledgeable personal injury attorney can prove crucial in ensuring that an insurance company makes the proper payout.
