Investigation Continues into Fresno Hit-and-Run That Killed 70-Year-Old Pedestrian

Fresno, CA – A hit-and-run accident on January 5, 2024, at 3:48 AM, at the intersection of Shields Avenue and Wilson Avenue in Fresno has claimed one life, according to The Fresno Bee.

70-year-old Fernando Gutierrez of Fresno was struck by an unknown driver while crossing Shields Avenue in the westbound lanes. Despite efforts to save him, Gutierrez succumbed to his injuries and passed away on January 6 at Community Regional Medical Center.

Authorities are actively seeking information about the suspect vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. The vehicle is described as a two-door vehicle, similar to a Dodge Challenger, with reported damage to the front end and possibly the front windshield. The suspect vehicle was last seen heading northbound on Wilson from Shields.

The Fresno Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction and Hit & Run detectives have taken charge of the investigation. They have released a surveillance photo of a vehicle matching the description.
