Bakersfield, CA – An unnamed pedestrian lost his life the evening of January 1, 2024, after being struck by three vehicles on northbound Highway 99, just north of Olive Drive, according to KGET.

The California Highway Patrol Incident Page begins its reporting at 6:34 PM when the pedestrian, for reasons yet to be determined, was walking in the second traffic lane of the highway.

When the first vehicle struck, it sent the pedestrian into the path of the second, leading to another impact. The pedestrian came to a rest in the path of a third vehicle, which struck as well. After emergency first responders arrived, they declared the pedestrian dead at the scene.

The drivers of both the second and third vehicles stopped and stayed to address the accident. However, the driver of the first fled the scene, and CHP is continuing to look for them. No description of the first vehicle has been made public.

Wrongful death cases arise when a person loses their life due to the negligence or intentional actions of another party. In such instances, families left behind not only endure the profound emotional impact of their loss but also face financial hardships. A wrongful death claim, which can be filed whether or not criminal charges are brought to bear, can assist with these hardships.
