A pedestrian lost her life in a fatal pedestrian accident in Bakersfield on Sunday night. KGET reports the tragedy took place on Roberts Lane near the area of MacArthur Drive.
According to California Highway Patrol officials, the accident happened when a Toyota was traveling west on Roberts Lane while a BMW was traveling behind the Toyota. A 30-year-old woman started to cross the street from south to north when she was struck by the Toyota. The pedestrian was thrown into the number two lane of traffic where she was struck a second time by the BMW driver. Both drivers stopped and remained on scene after the accident.
Paramedics and numerous other Bakersfield responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. The female pedestrian sustained major injuries and was tragically pronounced dead on scene. Nobody else was hurt in the accident.
The roadway was blocked for a period of time after the accident as police worked to clear the scene.
California Highway Patrol continues its investigation into the circumstances of the accident at this time.
