Motorcycle Accident Dangers on Highway 154 in Los Olivos
Highway 154 can be a scenic drive for people in cars and on motorcycles. Unfortunately, too many people pay more attention to the scenery than the road ahead. This lack of attention can cause drivers to miss the smaller profile of a motorcyclist and act as if they weren’t there. Those mistakes can lead to devastating accidents.
According to California transportation officials, Santa Barbara saw 132 serious motorcycle accidents in 2022. Those accidents led to at least 2 tragic deaths over the year.
These collisions are often the result of a careless driver who doesn’t check mirrors or blind spots long enough to spot the motorcyclists beside them. They can also make mistakes as they enter a highway, by looking in both directions too briefly to give themselves the opportunity to spot an approaching motorcyclist.
Santa Barbara County provides an amazing backdrop to many motorcycle rides each year. A little more attention from drivers can greatly increase the chances of local motorcyclists and visiting riders returning home safely.
