Medical Condition Accident Dangers in Los Angeles
Accidents involving a medically incapacitated driver can lead to frightening collisions. These crashes are impossible to predict and therefore other motorists and pedestrians will have a difficult time spotting a hazard and avoiding an impact.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) looked at accidents involving a driver having a medical emergency over a two-year period. They found that only about 1.3% of accidents in their study included a driver with a medical issue. They also determined that a few emergency conditions made up the majority of the incidents. 84% of the drivers in crashes suffered from seizures, blackouts, or diabetic complications.
In a car accident caused by a driver suffering a medical emergency, the driver can be held liable for the damages and injuries caused in some cases. It might be shown that a driver knew about the risk of medical problems but didn’t take the proper medication or act to get treatment.
In other cases, those injured by a crash involving a medical emergency can call upon their own car insurance policies to seek help with paying medical bills.
