Fresno, CA Vehicle Accident Leaves Motorcyclist Dead

A motorcyclist was killed after a collision with another vehicle on Friday, December 16, 2022, in Fresno, CA. The accident, which occurred around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Jensen and Armstrong in the southeastern part of the city, involved a man riding a motorcycle and a motor vehicle with a passenger, according to KFSN.

The Fresno Police Department (FPD) originally responded to multiple calls that reported the accident. Once they arrived on the scene, they found a man unresponsive in the roadway and began life-saving efforts, which were ultimately unsuccessful.

A preliminary investigation by FPD found that the motor vehicle was traveling east on Jensen Avenue and tried to turn left, and in doing so ended up colliding with the man on the motorcycle traveling westbound on Armstrong Avenue.

Authorities also say that the driver and passenger of the vehicle are cooperating with the investigation and found that alcohol and drugs did not play a factor in the accident. which caused a two-hour closure of the road near the accident scene.

Maison Law of Fresno also reported on the accident, as well as the potential benefits victims and their families can receive in a resulting claim.

Fresno Motorcycle Accident Statistics

Some vehicles are simply more dangerous to operate than others. Chief among these vehicles are motorcycles, which offer very little protection in the event of an accident, such as the one above.  While protection is certainly an issue on a motorcycle, there is also the fact that can be extremely hard to control and maneuver, especially in bad weather or on a crowded road.

Perhaps the biggest risk associated with riding a motorcycle is sharing the road with other drivers. In Fresno and throughout the country, this can often lead to various different causes of an accident, usually when the driver:

  • Fails to check blind spots
  • Changes lanes unsafely or lane splitting
  • Drives too fast for the road conditions
  • Fails to yield to the motorcyclist
  • Drives while impaired by alcohol or drugs
  • Is distracted
  • Runs a stop sign or traffic light

Authorities in Fresno and throughout California are aware of the dangers of motorcycle accidents on the road and have developed a system for managing and reporting on incidents that occur.

Thus, the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS) has found that over the last five years, there have been an average of 18.4 fatal motorcycle accidents in Fresno, with 27 of these fatal accidents occurring in the city in 2021.
