DUI Suspect Arrested After Fatal Collision on Farm Tank Rd in San Luis Obispo

An impaired driving suspect was arrested after a two-car collision tragically claimed a man’s life in southern San Luis Obispo Saturday morning. KSBY-TV reports the accident took place along Tank Farm Road west of Santa Fe Road, near the airport, on July 30, 2021.

The California Highway Patrol got the call reporting the accident at around 8:14 a.m. After they arrived, investigators determined that the driver of a Chevrolet was traveling eastbound when the vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic. The Chevrolet then collided with a westbound Volkswagen.

The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as a 63-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet suffered major injuries and was rushed to a local hospital.

The driver of the Chevrolet was also placed under arrest. The suspect faces charges of driving under the influence of a drug and/or causing death to another person. The charges also include gross vehicular manslaughter.

Alcohol and drug-use accidents led to one death and almost 30 injuries in 2021. In 2020, 4 tragic deaths were recorded due to impaired driving in San Luis Obispo.
