Multiple vehicles were involved in a frightening DUI suspected crash in northwest Fresno Wednesday night. Fresno police officers responded to the scene near the intersection of North Brawley Avenue and West San Jose Avenue around 8:45 p.m. on June 1, 2022.
Police officers say that, in all, four vehicles were involved in the collision. They believe one vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed caused the chain-reaction crash. One vehicle was overturned in the impact. Police were also investigating whether the responsible person was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
KPGE-TV reports that three people were taken to the hospital with injuries. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident continues.
DUI Accident Dangers in Fresno
The thoughtless choice to get behind the wheel while impaired by drugs or alcohol can pose immediate threats to other cars on the road. In fact, a driver under the influence can make unpredictable mistakes to cause a crash affecting many vehicles at once.
Drivers and passengers can suffer broken bones, and traumatic brain injuries, and have their lives threatened by damage to internal organs.
The toll these harmful decisions take on victims and their families in Fresno is never acceptable. Unfortunately, driving under the influence cases continue to rise in the city. In 2019, California’s Transportation Injury Mapping System (TIMS) recorded 99 Fresno accidents leading to injury or death involving alcohol. In 2020, the number jumped to 183 incidents. And in 2021, cases rose again to 216 accidents caused by the use of alcohol.
These shocking jumps in incidents should serve as a frightening warning to those at risk of driving while impaired. These potential motorists and their friends and family must take every action possible to prevent someone under the influence from ending up behind the wheel.
A Word About DUI Accidents in Fresno
If you or a loved one has been hurt in a Fresno car accident, you should be aware of the benefits available to you and your family through an insurance claim. Financial support should be expected to help with every hospital bill and the time victims miss away from their jobs.
Victims don’t have to wait on a DUI suspect to face criminal charges before filing an injury claim. A claim for damages is a civil case that can be settled separately.
