Violent Accident On Clayton Avenue in Fresno County Leaves Two Injured

A violent traffic accident left two vehicles upended and sent two people to the hospital over the weekend in Fresno County. The California Highway Patrol responded to the accident around 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon on April 24, 2022.

KGPE-TV reports the accident occurred near the intersection of Clayton Avenue and Chestnut Avenue south of Fresno. Officers found that two vehicles had collided. They located the cab of a pick-up truck overturned in the front yard of a nearby home. The bed of the truck was also found in the yard, separated from the cab.

An SUV, also part of the accident, was found leaning against a gate and chain-link fence.

One person was found in each of the vehicles. They had to be extricated by firefighters and then were rushed to a local hospital. Their injuries were thought to be moderate.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. They don’t believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.

Overturned Vehicle Accident Dangers in Fresno County

A vehicle overturning after an impact greatly increases the chances of a serious injury for drivers and passengers. Even with seatbelts on, car occupants absorb blunt force trauma from car doors, ceilings, seats, steering wheels, and car dashboards.

These dangerous impacts injure and kill thousands of people across the nation. The Transportation Injury Mapping System (TIMS) in California tracks many different accident types in Fresno County each year.

In 2021, TIMS recorded 3,537 vehicle accidents across the county. 209 of those accidents were documented as involving overturned vehicles. In those cases, 12 people were tragically killed and another 242 victims suffered injuries.

The difficult truth is that drivers must show more caution at intersections and on narrow avenues through rural Fresno County to protect everyone on the road. A bit more focus on the road can prevent violent accidents and leave vehicles with all four tires on the ground.
