A devastating collision between two vehicles in Fresno County tragically claimed one life and left another victim hospitalized. The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene just west of Fresno on Saturday Evening.
KFSN-TV reported the accident occurred near the intersection of Chateau Fresno Avenue and Shields Avenue on December 18, 2021. Investigators say the 23-year-old driver of a red pickup truck veered across the centerline and struck a yellow van head-on.
The 23-year-old driver was killed in the collision. The driver of the van was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. That driver’s condition hasn’t been updated, but the victim was expected to survive.
The California Highway Patrol believes alcohol may have been a factor in the accident. They continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Drunk Driving Dangers in Fresno County
Fresno County drivers have always been at elevated risk from reckless and careless motorists, but a new insurance study illustrates exactly why the dangers are so high locally.
According to research released in November of 2021, BuyAutoInsurance.Com ranked Fresno as the 9th worst city in the entire nation for drunk driving. Fresno was also the worst city in California for DUI dangers.
The study found that the city of Fresno had 648 DUI arrests per 100,000 residents and an average of 1,148 arrests annually.
This elevated DUI danger takes a devastating toll on victims, their families, and the local community each year. Lives are tragically lost and victims are left with painful injuries over a preventable mistake.
With more awareness from people who plan on engaging in alcohol consumption and with more responsibility taken by people around them, tragedies can be prevented.
