Blackstone Avenue Pedestrian Accident in Fresno California

A frightening pedestrian accident in northern Fresno sent one man to the hospital Sunday evening. The accident occurred at the intersection of Blackstone Avenue and Herndon Avenue on October 3, 2021.

KGPE-TV reports the Fresno Police Department responded to the scene around 7 p.m. after several calls were received by 9-1-1 about someone getting struck by a car.

Fresno Officers say they found a man in his 30s suffering from moderate injuries. The victim was rushed to a local hospital. His injuries were not considered life-threatening at the time.

Officers believe the man was crossing in a crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle involved stopped to cooperate with investigators. The Fresno Police Department has not released the cause of the accident or released an update on the condition of the victim.

Pedestrian Hazards Across Fresno

Traveling around Fresno streets, anyone can spot the most dangerous sections of the city for those on foot. Pedestrians hazards can include poorly lit sections of sidewalks. They may also include poorly designed crosswalks and intersections.

Pedestrians can be asked to cross up to nine lanes of traffic in a few mere seconds, while also contending with cars and SUVS attempting right turns. These journeys are especially scary as daylight fades and drivers refuse to slow down or take extra looks to identify any passengers who may be walking nearby.

In 2020, the problems for pedestrians walking Fresno only continued. The Transporation Injury Mapping System (TIMS) tracked pedestrian accidents across the city. They recorded 114 collisions involving people on foot and vehicles for the year. Those accidents led to the tragic deaths of 32 victims and left another 90 people injured. What’s more, nearly 30% of all the pedestrian accidents occurred at insections.

Increased driver caution and city efforts to boost sidewalk and crosswalk safety must converge to reduce these unacceptable Fresno Pedestrian accident numbers each year.
