A frightening weekend car accident in the Los Gatos community tragically claimed one life. KRON-TV reports the Sunday morning collision occurred near the intersection of Blossom Hill Road and Belgatos Road on January 8, 2023.
The Los Gatos Monte Sereno Police Department responded to the accident sometime after 9:52 a.m. They discovered that two vehicles had crashed.
At least two occupants were rushed to a local hospital. The injured included the two drivers. One man involved died from his injuries. Investigators have not released the identities of any of the victims.
At last word, there were no citations or arrests made, but the Los Gatos Monte Sereno Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Los Gatos Accident Dangers
Travel on Los Gatos’ busiest routes like Santa Cruz Avenue or Highway 17 leaves motorists at risk of devastating crashes. Careless drivers can pay more attention to a cell phone screen than the traffic ahead. They may also aggressively switch lanes without checking blind spots or ignore stop signs and send a cautious driver into a scary collision.
The California Transportation Injury Mapping System (TIMS) tracks accidents across Santa Clara County each year. TIMS documented 5,681 accidents involving injury in the county in 2021. Those accidents led to at least 92 tragic deaths for the year.
Even a small community like Los Gatos sees too many accidents each year. In 2021, Los Gatos recorded 106 crashes involving injury. Local accident cases were right around the same level in 2020. In 2019, Los Gatos saw quite a few more incidents involving injury, peaking at 136 accidents.
Los Gatos residents face accident hazards in local neighborhoods and as they travel across Santa Clara County to shop in San Jose or to commute to work. The only sure way to guarantee fewer crashes is to constantly remind drivers to observe speed limits and to ignore their cell phones while behind the wheel.
