Head-On Collision on California City Boulevard Claims the Lives of Two Drivers

Two drivers were killed in a tragic weekend car crash in eastern Kern County.  The California City Police Department says the accident occurred Saturday morning October 1, 2022.

The Bakersfield Californian reported the two-car collision occurred along California City Boulevard near the intersection of Yerba Boulevard sometime around 6 a.m. Responding officers found that a 2017 Chevrolet and a 2021 Toyota had collided head-on.

Tragically, both of the drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in one of the cars was rushed to the hospital with injuries.

California City police investigators are still examining the circumstances surrounding the accident, but they do believe speed and alcohol could have been factors. Anyone with information about the crash should call the California City Police Department.

California City Boulevard Accident Dangers

City streets can provide elevated risks for motorists at any time of day. Even boulevards with divided lanes can still be the scene of a major accident. Drivers who travel too fast or may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol can come across a cement barrier to suddenly be in the path of oncoming traffic.

California’s Transportation Injury Mapping System tracked almost 4,000 accidents involving injuries on Kern County roads in 2021. Those crashes caused the death of almost 200 victims for the year. Even a small place like California City still recorded 35 accidents with injuries and at least one tragic death across 2021.

Many Kern County accidents are preventable. Hundreds of accidents would not happen if all drivers would avoid reckless behavior like speeding and drinking before driving. Sadly, too many lives are lost when this basic care for other drivers is ignored.
