The driver of the Chevrolet was also placed under arrest. The suspect faces charges of driving under the influence of a drug and/or causing death to another person. The charges also include gross vehicular manslaughter.
DUI Dangers on San Luis Obispo Roads
Motorists who use drugs or consume alcohol before getting on the road can place a lot of innocent lives in jeopardy at once. Drivers and passengers in other cars can face traumatic injuries in collisions and also risk the loss of life.
Traffic officials who monitor DUI accidents in San Luis Obispo recorded 24 alcohol-related injury accidents in the city across 2021. Drug impairment accidents are harder to track, but the city reported another 5 injury accidents involving a driver using drugs. Alcohol and drug-use accidents led to one death and almost 30 injuries in 2021. In 2020, 4 tragic deaths were recorded due to impaired driving in San Luis Obispo.
These devastating losses take their toll on victims, their families, and the community. It’s critical that the friends and family of DUI drivers and the owners of bars and restaurants do everything in their power to keep dangerous drivers off the road.
