San Jose Police are looking for a hit-and-run suspect after a woman on foot was killed early Tuesday morning. According to KERO-TV the accident happened in eastern San Jose in the 200 Block of South Jackson Avenue. That’s near the San Antonio Street intersection.
San Jose Police were called to the scene at around 4:45 a.m. on June 28, 2022. They found that a woman was traveling in the northbound lanes of Jackson when she was hit.
She was later pronounced dead on the scene. Police have not released the identity of the victim. It’s only been revealed that she is an adult female.
Investigators believe that a black sedan, possibly a 2018-2022 model Honda Accord, was involved. If you have any information about what happened, you’re asked to call the San Jose Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit.
San Jose Pedestrian Dangers
Each year, San Jose proves a very dangerous place for pedestrians. More crosswalks and safer crosswalks can be installed to help, but a change in driving habits will make the biggest difference.
Drivers in San Jose are required to always monitor for pedestrians, even when a walker is outside of a crosswalk. Because those on foot are so vulnerable in any strike from a car, motorists can be held liable for any collision, no matter where they come up on a pedestrian.
2022 is shaping up to be an awful year for driver neglect and pedestrian tragedies. The San Jose Police say this is the 21st fatal pedestrian accident in the city so far in 2022. By comparison, over the same span last year, only 8 pedestrians had been killed.
These tragic numbers only emphasize the need for drivers to pay more attention to the roadways, especially at night, to avoid causing devastating accidents. And when they do cause collisions, it’s critical that at-fault drivers stay on scene to get help to the victim as soon as possible.
