Pedestrian Accident Dangers in Kings County
Pedestrians in rural Kings County can find safe crosswalks hard or impossible to find. They must face dangers from careless and reckless motorists no matter their destinations. Unfortunately, these encounters between motorists and pedestrians result in many serious collisions each year.
California’s Transportation Injury Mapping System (TIMS) recorded 23 pedestrian accidents involving injury across Kings County in 2021. Those accidents led to two tragic deaths and left 22 people with injuries. Hanford was the scene for at least half of those accidents. The city recorded 13 pedestrian accidents with at least one death resulting.
The most heartbreaking factor in these sad cases is that when drivers should be paying extra attention to spot pedestrians, they often take their attention from the road. At night and around intersections, motorists should be monitoring for the chance there’s a pedestrian nearby. They should also slow down immediately once a pedestrian has been spotted. With a little extra focus on the lanes ahead, so many pedestrian accidents could be prevented.
