Fatal I-205 Crash Claims Life of Teenage Driver in San Joaquin County

San Joaquin County, CA – A collision on Interstate 205 resulted in the death of a 17-year-old driver on Wednesday evening, June 5, 2024, CBS13 reports.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash occurred after reports shortly after 6:30 PM of two vehicles engaged in dangerous driving behavior along the eastbound I-205 corridor between Tracy and Lathrop.

Near El Rancho Road, the 17-year-old, driving a 2013 Acura, attempted a lane change and sideswiped a 2009 Toyota. This collision caused both vehicles to flip and descend into an embankment. The teenage driver was ejected from his car upon impact and suffered fatal injuries.

Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. The CHP has withheld his identity pending notification of next of kin, adding a layer of privacy and respect for the grieving family during this difficult time.

The driver of the Toyota, a 62-year-old man from Plymouth, sustained minor injuries and fled the scene following the crash. Thanks to detailed witness accounts, investigators were able to locate the fleeing driver and his vehicle later that day. The CHP has indicated that a criminal case against this driver is now pending.

The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash, urging anyone who may have additional information to contact the CHP Tracy office. It is not yet clear if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

The community is left to mourn the loss of a young life taken too soon due to preventable behavior on the road.

Wrongful Death Claims

Establishing fault in a collision can depend on multiple factors. Helping to determine legal liability is one of the ways that a personal injury attorney can help grieving families recovering from the loss of a loved one in a traffic accident.

Suppose it is determined that another party holds some portion of responsibility for their loved one’s death. In that case, they may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim with the insurance provider of the at-fault driver. A wrongful death claim can provide compensation to help cover hospital fees, burial costs, and the loss of support for dependents of the deceased.
