Snapchat Updates Best Friends with Emojis on April 6th, 2015

Snapchat briefly discarded “Best Friends” in late January 2015. On April 6th, 2015 they replaced the old best friends with the new and improved Snapchat Emoji Best Friends. Snapchat users have been scrambling to figure out what the different icons and emojis mean. The new set of emojis include a gold heart, a grimace face or gritting teeth, a smiley face, a sunglasses emoji, a smirking face and a firey flame. Snapchat has yet to release an official blog post explaining exactly what these icons mean.

Social media and mobile news websites have been doing their best to quickly learn what all the icons mean. It is interesting to see how the different demographics of Snapchat value these “best friends”. Comments all over the web were not complimentary when Snapchat first removed best friends with the addition of the Discover tab in late January 2015. Most of the comments were from middle school, high school and college students. It is important to note that over 70% of Snapchat users are younger than 34 years old.

As the afternoon progresses some of the major tech blogs and news outlets will report on the importance of this update. Snapchat wants users to stay on their app as long as possible. With the new “fire icon” having a number beside it most can imagine users will try to increase that number. From what we understand, this number is the consecutive days in which a user has sent a snap video or picture to that particular user.

The Snapchat valuation continues to explode higher and it is all in due time before the company IPO’s on the NASDAQ. Before going through the IPO process it will be the case that Evan Spiegal does his best to keep users on the app for hours upon hours every single day. The new addition of Snapchat stories for major events is just one of the many ways in which he is trying to keep high school and college students in the app on their iPhone and Android.

If you are looking to find girls and guys on Snapchat there are some fantastic websites that have comments as well as databases of those that want to get to know you better on the latest social media app. We think there will be a Snapchat discover option in the very near future but that has yet to be announced as part of the product.
