On Sunday June 29th, 2014 divers were called to the scene of a boating accident at Pyramid Lake just north of Los Angeles. Many Los Angeles residents may know of Pyramid Lake as it is on the left hand side of I-5 while heading north. The boating accident occurred just before noon on Saturday as a man on a Jet Ski informed police that he noticed a boat overturned. At the north end of the lake there was a boat overturned that was slowly sinking to the bottom. LA County Fire states they were called at 11:40 am to an area very close to Vista Del Lago Road which is 16 miles north of Castaic.
As of late evening on Sunday, June 29th, 2014 there has been one confirmed death and divers are looking for others that may have been passengers on the boat. Homicide investigators were at the scene of the accident in the late afternoon to determine if the boating accident was accidental or if their was foul play involved. At this time, there are no confirmed details.
Boating accidents are much more common during the summer months as this is when boat owners are likely to be on the water. Even though the temperatures are moderate in the Los Angeles area year round most employed Californians do not have time to get their boat on the water during the winter months. With the number of boats on the water increasing in the months leading up to Independence Day authorities urge boaters to be aware of their surroundings. Even if it looks as if the water is completely empty there may be jet skis or small boats just around the corner.
