After getting a credit report, you will want to look over the items listed and be sure that they are all credit purchases you have made. One problem many people have to deal with, in terms of a low credit score, it an error on their credit history, a credit purchase they didn’t make, or an item that was paid that may still be listed as delinquent or worse. All of these can cause a lower credit score.
If you find an erroneous item on your credit history you should write a letter to the consumer reporting companies that details your dispute and provide copies of documentation that shows the item was either paid or, in your letter, explain that the item shouldn’t even be on your credit history.
