The Senate passed the jobs bill today but failed to reinstate provisions for unemployment benefits extensions for millions of Americans who are depending on unemployment benefits as a source of income. However, there is talk that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is looking to pass alternate legislation that extends unemployment benefits in the short-term, for 30 days, and then possibly into December of this year.
Many unemployed were worried over the jobs bill and if unemployment benefits would be a part of the legislation after a variety of proposals were removed. The consensus among those in need of unemployment benefits extensions is that without unemployment benefits in this jobs bill there would be no extension at all.
Despite the passing of the Senate jobs bill without unemployment extensions, there are talks that unemployment is indeed looking to be extended seeing as how February 28th is an expiration date for many who are currently relying on unemployment benefits to meet even the most basic of needs.
Those who were relying on this jobs bill for their unemployment extension shouldn’t worry just yet, as there are talks still over extensions to unemployment. Unemployment benefits extensions still are a priority for Congress, so keep watch in the coming days for more news on unemployment extensions.
