Reports are that the new 2010 jobs bill will include an extension for unemployment benefits and COBRA benefits. There is speculation that the basics of the jobs bill will be worked out through the end of this week, possibly going into next week, with a vote hoped to be scheduled for next week as well.
This news is welcome to many who are in danger of losing or have already lost their unemployment benefits and COBRA benefits. Those who are in need of extensions in these programs, especially unemployment benefits, are wondering why it has taken so long for an extension to be passed.
Since the extension of both unemployment benefits and COBRA benefits are within a jobs bill that is tackling a variety of issues, there is bound to be a lot of debate. However, there are issues of agreement from both parties that are being set forth in the bill and it is hopeful that debates will be kept to a minimum and passage of unemployment and COBRA benefits extensions are done in a timely manner.
The jobs bill is going to have to attack many fronts on the unemployment battlefield. There are proposals working their way through Congress that are going to attempt to promote small business lending and growth, job creation and employer hiring incentives, as well as another round of unemployment extensions.
Again, there is speculation over what the bill will contain, but the specifics are going to have to wait until the final bill is passed.
