A new program set to fund green, clean energy jobs is said to be set to create 17,000 new jobs as $2.3 billion is being invested in the program. However, the stimulus money that is going to fund such projects isn’t flowing to these jobs as quickly as it did to the big banks for their bailouts and this has many wondering if this $2.3 billion committed to green, clean energy jobs will help with the unemployment problem.
One caveat to this particular program, which is part of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, is that these jobs selected to receive these funds must begin by 2013, which isn’t creating short-term solutions for those who don’t have three years to wait for job opportunities.
However, these green, clean energy jobs aren’t the only part of this stimulus and the White House said they expect one-third of these jobs selected for this program to begin or be completed by this year since priority was given to projects that were, so called, “shovel ready.”
There are also private firms investing billions into this, or similar programs and that is said to bring in even more job openings for the future in the green, clean energy sector.
There are hopes for this and similar programs because many believe clean energy and green jobs are going to be a huge factor in the future as our nation must start turning to alternative energy sources, like wind and solar, since we are far behind other nations in these areas. Perhaps programs like these are going to be the solution to unemployment we have been looking for but only time will tell.
